The first time we heard the concept of Big Data was in the 1990s. The American John Mashley published the article Big Data and the Next Wave of Infrastress , where he explained and anticipated how all the data we would generate in the following decades would be used in the future. In those years, this computer theorist explained what was difficult to imagine at the time: that data, and knowledge about it, would change our dynamics. And so it has been.

Today, Big Data has become a key element for the success of many companies. Its proper use allows companies to obtain ideas that lead to better decisions and strategic business movements.

What is Big Data?
Big Data is the set of data or taiwan email list combinations of data that are large in volume and growing at a rate that makes it difficult to capture and manage them using conventional tools or databases.

How much data or data sets are needed to be considered Big Data? There is currently no set figure, however, most analysts agree that this data should be around 30 or 40 terabytes .

These data can be produced by people when carrying out everyday actions such as sending an email, posting a comment on social media, responding to a WhatsApp message, etc. They can also be data generated between machines (machine to machine), biometric data, for example: generated by tools that detect fingerprints, from surveillance services, and even from the data we generate through transactions such as online purchases or transfers from one bank account to another.

However, when we talk about Big Data, we are not only referring to the data, but also to the ability to export it to extract valuable information.

What is it for?
We have already mentioned the importance of Big Data in the previous point: data is useful because we can extract valuable information from it, and even answer questions that sometimes have not even been asked yet. That is its main use! That is what it is for!

With Big Data, companies are able to identify problems in a more understandable way, to search for trends very efficiently, and above all, to identify new opportunities .
