Basic guide to marketing automation in Mailchimp

Post by tongfkymm44 »

Last May, MailChimp, the newsletter sending tool par excellence, announced that it was going to include the automation tool in its free plan ' Forever Free ', which until then had only been available in the paid versions. This step encouraged many to enter the world of marketing automation , despite not knowing very well what it consisted of.

Marketing automation has many advantages as long as you know how to do it, which is why we have created this basic guide to marketing automation in MailChimp so that beginners in this field can learn how to get the most out of it.

1. The first step, of course, is to have a MailChimp account. Once inside the tool, go to the Campaigns tab and click on the Create Campaign button . A window will open with two options: Create an email or Create an ad . Click onusa email list the first one and a new window will appear with a menu in which you must select Automated .

2. Once we get to the Automated section , we will have several options: from automatic emails to welcome new subscribers to automated birthday greetings. To start with something simple, we select the Welcome new subscribers option . With this option, what you can do is create a welcome message that will be automatically sent to each of the new subscribers to your newsletter.

3. Once you have selected the type of message, the next step is to select the list of contacts to which you are going to send it, which in this case will be the list of subscribers to the newsletter . Once you have chosen the list, you will get to the heart of the matter: designing and programming the automation. To do this, click on the Design button .

4. The next screen that appears is the email configuration screen. Here you have to write the title of the newsletter, the email from which it is sent and the name of the sender, among other information. This part is quite important, since the title of the message is largely the input that makes a user decide whether or not to open an email. Therefore, you have to try to write an attractive and original subject that attracts the user's attention .

5. Next, you need to select the template you want to use for your newsletter. You can choose from the ones that come by default with MailChimp, or you can design your own and import it. Once you've selected the template, you need to develop the welcome message, which can include everything you want (text, images, links to your blog and social networks, etc.). All Mailchimp templates are customizable, so our recommendation is that to start with, it's best to choose a pre-designed template and modify it to your liking.

6. Once this point is completed, the tool will return us to the start screen of the automation process from which we can continue developing new messages (thus creating a workflow) or simply save and continue automating our welcome message. If we choose the latter option, we must click on the Next button located at the bottom right of the screen.

7. With this step we will reach the last screen of the automation process where we will find a summary of all the actions we have carried out and the option to edit them if something does not seem correct. From here we can schedule the time when we want the message to be sent, which by default is scheduled for one day after the user joins the subscriber list. Once everything is correct, click on Start Workflow and we will have our automation action active.
