Lack of digitalization culture

According to the consulting company KMDA, one of the main problems that companies face in the process of digital business transformation is resistance to change from employees. For example, a department manager is sure that registering transactions in an online system is a useless activity, although this is required by management. It is quite obvious that he will not oblige employees to perform this task. As a result, the staff will simply fill out reports. Therefore, the meaning of implementing certain decisions must be conveyed to employees. Otherwise, the company will face resistance from the team.

Digital culture is a key component of success. The organization must work on this aspect, form the corresponding principles and values.

To reduce resistance, the following information must be conveyed to employees:

The benefit that will be obtained by implementing the new solution.

Operating principle. Employees shareholder data package must understand how the innovation functions, at least at a basic level. All processes must be as transparent as possible.

Changes in the tasks and area of responsibility of employees. For example, an organization can notify employees that their work is very important, so there will definitely be no layoffs. But the manager must be sure of this. Otherwise, trusting relationships with staff will be destroyed, and digital transformation will slow down.

Incompetence
Lack of necessary authority and awareness is one of the most common problems that arise during the digital transformation of an enterprise. Often, managers and employees lack the expert knowledge to properly conduct digital transformation. Many companies do not form a single digitalization body (for example, they do not introduce the position of CDTO - Chief digital transformation officer). Of course, this does not lead to anything good.

It is worth understanding that even the formation of an entire division for CT will not give a positive result if the team does not have the necessary competencies. A striking example of such a development is General Electric. In 2015, it founded GE Digital to work with external clients.

What hinders the implementation of a digital transformation strategy

The organization was too focused on getting quick financial results. As a result, management turned this structure into a way to solve internal problems of the enterprise. The company was never able to achieve its goal.
