Twitter CEO Biz Stone announced that he will no longer accept advertising on the popular microblogging platform, a rumor that has been around since the Global Technology Conference in New York in January but which was finally cleared up this week.

Rather than setting up an advertising model, Stone believes advertising data it is better to focus its business model on advertising tools and services to companies that use Twitter as a platform for exposure and especially as a conduit for conversational marketing.

These new applications will be introduced to the system towards the end of this year and will include statistics services and a listing of all commercial users.

Although Twitter managed to accumulate 17 million users in April and has rejected a $500 million offer to be acquired by Facebook, there are rumors that it could be bought by Google, a rumor spread by the popular technology blog Techcrunch but which would not make clear commercial sense, since the giant has already acquired one of the darlings of the Internet, YouTube, and is still racking its brains to manage to insert advertising into it.
