Recruitment Funnel: How It Works

Post by maksudasm »

What is it? A recruitment funnel is an effective tool for selecting and hiring employees for various positions in a company. It allows you to filter out unsuitable candidates, analyze the incoming and outgoing flow.

How does it work? The funnel consists of several stages: from posting a vacancy and interview to an offer and invitation to work. Each subsequent step receives fewer candidates.

Attraction, conversion and retention are the key elements of a sales funnel in marketing. Many people know and understand how and why it is necessary to track the path of a potential client from an offer to a purchase and further interaction. But few have heard of the concept of a sales funnel in the field of recruitment.

Recruiting is essentially a buying process. The recruiter's goal is to attract customers in the form of suitable candidates with the right knowledge, experience, and potential.

Now let's take a closer look at why recruiting is needed.

According to the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM), 73% of people do not want to change jobs, which is 17% more than last year! A study conducted by Kelly Services (published in Vedomosti) showed that 7 out of 10 people are currently still looking for work. However, this is done secretly: job postings are reviewed, resumes from job search sites are deactivated, but not deleted.

It follows that almost 75% of specialists are thinking about changing jobs to more promising ones, with better conditions, but do not dare to openly demonstrate this due to the events of recent years in the country. The COVID-19 pandemic, sanctions against Russia, and economic instability have influenced people's approach to changing jobs.

The fear of losing the current job and the simultaneous search for new opportunities requires a professional approach from the recruiter. Studying and optimizing the recruitment funnel are key components of this process. To identify funnel shortcomings and errors in interaction with candidates, the recruiter must analyze the entire path of the potential employee at all stages.

According to VTsIOM, over the past 7 years, Russians have become 17% less likely to rely on luck when looking for a job, but have begun to pay 6% more attention to salary, 5% more to their own interests, and 4% more to the company's reputation. This means that the role of a recruiter in searching for and selecting personnel has become more complex, but also more interesting.
