Hotmail's 'junk mail'

Some time ago I was talking to a client about the importance of making the links to cancel subscription to an electronic bulletin or newsletter very easy to find, and if possible, always including an unsubscribe link in the header of all emails, which is very difficult to ignore.

This makes sense - beyond the ethical and legal obligation to include an unsubscribe link - and it is that more and more people who use webmail are getting (badly) accustomed not only to unsubscribing from the bulletins or newsletters to which they are subscribed, but directly clicking on the button or link "Unwanted mail" or "Mark as Spam".

It doesn't matter if it's spam or a newsletter that they've subscribed to and are no longer interested in, what prevails is the convenience of not having to search for a link at the bottom or half hidden to unsubscribe, and this has consequences for those who send emails in compliance with the rules.

If we take the case of Hotmail in particular, each hit or "report" that africa direct whatsapp number the "Spam" link receives is counted as a sort of "negative vote" against the person who sent that email, and if these "negative votes" exceed a certain percentage (very low, by the way) of the total number of emails sent, it will contribute to the emails from that sender being either sent directly to the Spam folder or blocked completely and bouncing back as a "policy error."

Aware of these problems, Hotmail, AOL and some other ISPs have created feedback loops some time ago, which is an interesting help for those who send emails in compliance with current legislation, but we will talk about this in another post.

For these reasons (and several others, which would merit several articles) it is very important to make it easy to unsubscribe from a list, by placing the unsubscribe link in all emails and as visible as possible.

There is no worse business than trying to retain a subscriber who is no longer interested in the emails we send them.
