All of this is miles away

The best proof of this is the SRG, which cannot even manage to function without fees in German-speaking Switzerland. Because of the lack of language protection and the numerous foreign advertising windows permitted in Switzerland, neither the British solution (no advertising for the BBC) nor the German variant (no advertising for nigeria rcs data public broadcasters after 8 p.m.) is feasible in Switzerland, the only viable option would have been to partially finance a national language TV station with splitting fees in order to enable real, effective competition to the SRG. But it is too late for such a solution today.

It is completely impossible today to set up high-quality domestic competition to the SRG that is national language and financed solely by advertising.

This means that the options for national private TV providers are very limited.

The channels that have emerged in recent years primarily broadcast outdated and therefore cheap foreign archive material that can now be found on dozens of channels in the overflowing digital cable offering. Due to the low market share in a small country, a purely advertising-financed channel has little money left for in-house productions. Even the most successful of these channels, 3+, is banned from many of the most popular TV genres.
