In transitioning to electronic records, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC) identified persistent open outpatient visits in electronic medical records (EMRs), with significant clinical and financial impact on patient care as services are billed after visits are closed.
The situation needed to be addressed with strong policies that could reverse these significant impacts.

In one of the Qonnections 2017 sessions, Etter Hoang – Business Intelligence Development Manager at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center – and Dr. Renee Blanding – VP of Medical Affairs at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and former Medical Director of the operating room for 12 years – explained how they are working to solve this problem by using QlikView and applying solid clinical decision policies, while highlighting the use of statistical models to evaluate providers.



The relationship with Qlik
Etter Hoang has worked over the past 4 years to introduce bahrain number data and implement an enterprise QlikView architecture, along with a corporate governance model to manage a centralized-decentralized deployment model. She has primarily focused on introducing a BI platform and effective application deployment to drive adoption with a strong ROI.
Renee Blanding has been working over the past four years on championing and designing a Business Intelligence Unit at JHBMC to pave the way for an enterprise Qlik deployment. Renee is instrumental in bridging clinical decision making and business intelligence to advance the cutting edge of healthcare intelligence and clinical analytics.

During this period, they have achieved financial savings of $3 million and clinically a 44% reduction in open consultations.
