And they're going to do this on every product they have…!
The importance of the data
To achieve what Google wants, Google needs data, lots of data, and preferably social data. With that social data, Google can determine what you should see.
Again speaking to TechCrunch, Schmidt said:
“It would be multiple sources of identity and it would be multiple sources of essentially social networks at the technical level meaning the link structure of who your friends are and so forth.”
The way the data is obtained is important. And they get that data in different ways such as spidering the web, your mobile phone, your social network and Google+.
Google+ yes. Google+ is a huge source of data for Google. They are not 'allowed' to index Facebook, so they take another route to get the social data. And if you have so many users, why not your own social network? As Schmidt pointed out at the D-Conference :
“Google will obtain the social data through alternative means”.
What can we expect?
Right now, your results in Google are n’t as personalized as you might expect . Schmidt also indicated that the technology for this is currently being improved. Schmidt also told TechCrunch:
“there's a lot coming.”
So there is still a lot to look forward to, because Google has only just started. With Google+ they have taken a first (visible) step towards integration. But this is certainly not the last thing we will see. Google+ will be placed like a sheet over all other Google products, which will all become social. Starting with search: posts from the social network will become visible and the connections within that social network will partly determine what you see. Schmidt put it this way:
“The assumption that everything will move over to using the Plus infrastructure over time.”
This means that we will see social elements on all Google products. On the one hand, this is more 'features' in Google+, so more integration with other services like Twitter, Quora and maybe even Facebook. But more importantly, “the bigger picture”, where Google wants to go in the future.
Google+ Businesses
There was a lot of criticism about the fact that Business Pages were kuwait phone number list missing from the launch of Google+. While you can sign up your business for this in the hope that it will be your turn one day, the 'solution' for this could be closer than you think: Google Places.
Google is very busy improving “local” . Better Places pages, more local results and not to forget Hotpot. There may be a broader idea behind this. It would make sense for Places to be integrated with Google+ in some way and Business Profiles may be just the right place for that. This will be just one of many possible changes. The recently launched Google News Badges is another example of this. Although not yet linked to Google+, it is still a matter of time before that happens.
Other changes are expected in other Google services: search results will become more social, your (Android) phone will play a central role and don't rule out YouTube. The tests with the redesign there and the possible purchase of Hulu are all important. Look at the different Google services and think about how they might be connected to Google+ and you will understand the steps Google is taking even better. It is a new way of looking at the web and a new way of looking at search. No, it is NOT the end of SEO, but a different perspective will certainly be needed.
Google's new CEO Larry Page was certainly very serious when he linked Google employee bonuses to Google's social success …
